Luxembourgish is one of the major Germanic languages, boasting less than 1/3 million native speakers.
Luxembourgish is widely known for being the primary example of a Moselle Franconian language, and it is one of the official languages of the European Union, being spoken in no less than 3 important European states.
In the 1990s, it was estimated that Luxembourgish was likely to replace French as one of the official languages of the United Nations.
