"Drive My Soul" is the first single by Lights, released in May 2008.

The song peaked at #18 on the Canadian Top 100 in October 2008. It also made it to number 1 on the Canadian countdown on Much More Music.

The music video has been viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube and 2,300,000 on her Myspace. It was also featured in the hit TV show The Hills.

"Drive My Soul" is about the element in your life that you cannot live without and without it you feel lost and lose control. Lights said that this element could be anything you feel drives your soul and keeps you in the right path: your parents, a friend, or even something supernatural or a religious element.

The song has been guessed to be friendship or even lesbian themed because Lights says "I can't follow the way she moves" - she has clarified this is not true multiple times for fans as referring to a path she must follow and not to another woman.

The music video features Lights as Barbarella in a campy, 1960s-style science fiction movie theme, and her romantic relationship with an astronaut.

Lights has stated that "Drive My Soul" was actually a song where she had the title first before she even wrote the lyrics. She's said it all started when she was listening to an indie radio station, and heard a song which she thought had the lyrics "Drive My Soul" sung in a really beautiful way. After hearing the song, Lights, searched for the lyrics and to her surprise the lyrics "Drive My Soul" were never used in the song she heard. When she was searching for ideas to write, she went back to the title of "Drive My Soul" for her own song.

Lights is the stage name of Juno Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Valerie Poxleitner. She is best known for composing and performing heavily synthesized dream pop music.

Her song "Drive My Soul" peaked at #18 in the Canadian Hot 100 in 2008. Her next single, "February Air", was released on 9 December 2008 and the video for that song was put on the web on 12 December 2008 . In 2009, Lights released her third single to radio called "Ice" with a self-made video released via her MySpace.

Lights won Indie awards in the Favourite Solo Artist and Favourite Single categories during Canadian Music Week in March 2009 at Toronto, Ontario. She won the Best New Artist Awards in the Hot AC and CHR categories. All awards were for her debut single Drive My Soul, except the award for Favourite Solo Artist. She won best new artist at the 2009 Juno Awards.
