A series about life in Nigeria's slum-packed mega-city.
I know what you're thinking: this will be misery TV. When
you learn that the first programme is set mostly on a
rubbish dump where hundreds of people live and work,
you imagine a heart-tugging polemic about poverty and
suffering. But you'd be wrong. Because the makers of
the series have realised there's more to poor Africans than
victimhood. So instead they show us ordinary Nigerians
who are tough, optimistic and full of shrewd ways to
scrape a living. We meet dashing Eric, "Slender" to his
friends, who leads a double life scavenging on the dump
to earn money for his budding music career. We meet
another rubbish dealer, Joseph, whose 12 years on the
dump have enabled him to set up his wife and young
daughters, Peace and Patience, in a tiny flat.
