There has never been any film or miniseries with quite the scope and depth of this one, and some of the information is fascinating. Of particular note is the lengths gone to ensure historical accuracy for the Holocaust scenes. Most were filmed on exact location, using buildings recreated to the exact specifications of the real ones. Most chilling is the train trip into Auschwitz, because this was the first movie in film history allowed to film there by the Polish Government. The director made use of many survivors to create the selection scenes, and these survivors have testified to the fact that the filmed sequence is EXACTLY what occurred to prisoners brought into the camp.
