The show follows the lives of three gay couples the titular Rick and Steve, Chuck and Evan, and Dana and Kirsten as they live in the fictional \"gay ghetto\" of West Lahunga Beach. The title is a bit of a misnomer, as all three of the main couples have typical \"couple issues;\" including Steve actively seeking a three-way with Rick and another man, Kirsten and Dana deciding to have a baby (with Rick\'s sperm), and Chuck and Evan simply trying to be together with a 31 year age difference between them.

Along with the couples in West Lahunga are a few friends; including fag hag Condi Li (who prefers to think of herself as an \"alternative lifestyle companion\"), lesbian couple Ebony and Ivory with their baby Echinacea (whom they would refer to as \"she/he\"...emphasis on she, as they are refusing to learn which sex the child actually is), and porn star Dylan Ram-Brick. Steve\'s mother and stepfather drop in on occasion, and Rick\'s almost psychically connected mother has been known to call him whenever something has or is about to go wrong for him.
