The American television comedy The Office was renewed by NBC for a sixth season on January 15, 2009. The season premiered on September 17, 2009 and concluded on May 20, 2010. The episodes aired on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. EDT as part of Comedy Night Done Right.

Story arcs in the sixth season include Jim becoming co-manager with Michael of the Scranton branch, Michael dating Pam's mother, Dwight and Ryan attempting to get Jim fired, and Dunder Mifflin facing an uncertain future due to rumors of insolvency, eventually becoming part of a larger corporation called Sabre, led by CEO Jo Bennett (played by Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Kathy Bates). The season also prominently features the long-awaited wedding between Jim and Pam, as well as the birth of their first child. The romantic relationship between Andy and the new receptionist, Erin, is also building up.
