November 26, 1956. Fidel Castro (Demián Bichir) travels from Mexico to Cuba with eighty rebels, including Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Benicio Del Toro) and his brother Raul (Rodrigo Santoro). Guevara was an Argentine doctor who aimed to help Castro overthrow the government of Fulgencio Batista. Upon arriving he quickly integrates the guerrillas, participating in the armed struggle but also taking care of patients. Gradually he gains the respect of his teammates, it becomes one of the leaders of the revolution to come.
