Atlas - Catatonic EP torrent

Atlas have produced an excellent and highly original three track EP.
Kicking off with the title track, all staccato guitar riffs, odd time signatures, complete with piano jazz chords aplenty and of course Roxanne Johnâ??s unique vocal style which while maybe not directly influenced by, comes across as a mix of Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Mike Patton (yes, I did say Mike Patton) and dare I say it, even Madonna.
This seemingly odd mix of styles might sound like a musoâ??s wet dream and not something the average listener would enjoy; however, with songwriting this good, not only is it great that it works at all, but it really is excellent stuff indeed and has more than enough hooks to satisfy anyone into good music.

Second track â??Disillusionedâ?? is undoubtedly the highlight of this EP. Sadly this is the â??editedâ?? version and not the full ten-minute live version, but even so, there is still more than enough here to satisfy. Those of you out there missing Faith No More and particularly their King For A Day era output, will hear plenty of similarities throughout, certainly in Atlasâ??s use of chords and synth sounds.
Lyrically, this is nasty stuff and I am glad I am not at the receiving end of Johnâ??s very subtle, yet equally vicious attack.
The end section is truly breathtaking stuff. The whole, tune breaking down to almost nothing before building on a slow, droning, hypnotic guitar and piano motif until it fades to nothing leaving me salivating for more (thatâ??ll be the ten-minute version then!).

The almost â??singleâ??-like, â??The Storyâ?? rounds things off nicely and is perhaps the most straight-forward track on here. No bad thing, although it is clearly on their more ambitious musical ventures where Atlas excel. More please!
