Excellent and recommended introduction to Java (along with Eclipse IDE configuration) for beginners. The examples are well thought out and clear and gradually introduce the concepts required to progress to more advanced programming in the future. This is NOT a study guide for the Oracle Java accreditation exams but a real introduction to Java for the curious, the student and the professional. It is also updated regularly with those updates freely available on the author's website along with the example programs. The only addition to the excellent text I could think of might be to add configuration information for the NetBeans IDE as well seeing as NetBeans seems to be catching up with Eclipse in terms of popularity.
