A 13-year-old growing up in a working class Moroccan-Israeli community, Aharon Ninio is having a tough time. His father is distant, bullies hound him on the street and the girl of his dreams barely knows he exists. Approaching his bar mitzvah, Aharon is chosen to carry the Torah scrolls on Simchat Torah. But the neighbourhood's belief that those who carry the Torah can request gifts on behalf of others awakens age-old tensions in his family. Torn between his parents' conflicting wishes, Aharon finds himself under intense pressure that may turn his triumph into disaster.
