In this report, Asia Watch charges that beatings of prisoners are a common part of Indonesia prison operations, and corrupt practices by prison staff permeate every aspect of prison life. Asia Watch visited seven prisons, but was not permitted private meetings with inmates. Interviews with ex-prisoners, both political and criminal, are the
source for numerous accounts of prison life that contrast sharply with the "official version." Enough said.
