'Tears of the Unborn' is a rather forgotten Slovakian old-school death metal album, although I've heard a few of their countrymen praising this one as an underground classic.

Apoplexy deliver quirky structures with very melodic, epic riffs, something like mid-era Death perhaps. Yeah some moments are kind of weird like old Finnish death metal, I'm just bored of that type of atmosphere. The riffs are all pretty happy-sounding and the song titles are dumb and gay and vague. 'Tears of the Unborn' has all the stereotypes of that sort of early to mid 90s death metal that gives the old-school and retro heads a boner, but I don't know, I just find it horribly cliche and generic. It possesses a lot of the traits of death metal I don't like - the happy tame riffs that attempt to be quirky and bouncy and a little abstract but safe enough so that lighter metalheads can feel comfortable listening to it, lots of melodies that are indeed openly melodic and fairly pretty but don't really go anywhere, simple rock-like structures with a very blatant connection to regular heavy metal and so on. Yeah, I'm really not feeling this one. It feels like Death's Symbolic which is never a good thing, although I guess I can give it props for lacking Chuck's horrible vocals.

I'm not that into it, but you probably will be.
