Collin Raye a atteint le sommet des palmarès country de Billboard au début de 1992 avec « Love, Me
», une ballade sentimentale racontant l’amour durable entre les grands-parents du narrateur. « Love,
Me » a été le premier des quatre singles numéro un country que Raye a accumulés dans les années
1990, et il a également établi la touche douce qui lui servirait bien tout au long de sa carrière.
Il pouvait soulever un peu de poussière - « My Kind of Girl », un numéro un de 1995, était un
morceau de country rock vif - mais à la base, Raye était un conteur avec un côté doux, un chanteur
qui se spécialisait dans les moments plus doux et les tempos plus lents. Ces compétences se sont
facilement transférées dans la musique chrétienne contemporaine, qu’il a commencé à enregistrer à
l’occasion dans les années 2000. Même s’il chantait parfois du gospel, Raye a continué à revenir
régulièrement à la country, sortant des albums comme Never Going Back en 2009 et Scars en 2020, qui
s’appuyaient sur le son country-pop qui a fait de lui une star au début des années 90.
