Ultravox est un groupe britannique de musique new wave fondé en 1973 par John Foxx avec Chris Cross (de son vrai nom Christopher Allen) à la basse
et Stevie Shears à la guitare, rejoints l'année suivante par Warren Cann à la batterie, ainsi que Billy Currie aux claviers et au violon.
Le groupe s'appelle alors Tiger Lily puis change son nom pour Ultravox en 1976.
Inspirés par le glam rock et le punk, le groupe développe un son qui influencera la scène new wave, notamment Gary Numan.
Avec l'arrivée de Midge Ure en 1979, en remplacement de John Foxx, Ultravox prend de l'ampleur et obtient plusieurs succès
(comme Vienna, Hymn ou Dancing with Tears in My Eyes) jusqu'à sa séparation en 1988.
Le groupe devient alors l'une des formations musicales emblématiques du mouvement des Nouveaux Romantiques.
Vienna est le quatrième album du groupe Ultravox, sorti en 1980. Toujours produit par Conny Plank, il marque néanmoins le début d'une nouvelle phase
dans l'histoire du groupe, avec l'arrivée du chanteur et guitariste Midge Ure. C'est également le premier album d'Ultravox sur le label Chrysalis,
et le premier à rencontrer un franc succès commercial : il se classe no 3 des ventes au Royaume-Uni. Les quatre singles qui en sont tirés
se classent également dans les charts britanniques, la chanson-titre se hissant jusqu'à la deuxième place en janvier 1981.
Quatre décennies plus tard, cette édition de cinq disques permet aux auditeurs de choisir entre le master analogique original de 1980
et le remix stéréo 2020 absolument éblouissant de Steven Wilson.  Ce dernier est une véritable perle: la touche précise et attentionnée de Wilson
a apporté de nouvelles nuances infinies à ces chansons. On ne peut qu'imaginer le sourire sur son visage lorsqu'il a fini de faire sonner "Vienna"
plus grande et plus irrésistible que jamais. Les inconditionnels d'Ultravox peuvent se plonger dans plusieurs disques supplémentaires
de singles, de faces B, de raretés live, d'un concert entier enregistré à St Albans en 1980 et les enregistrements sur cassette des répétitions avant la tournée.
