Testa did the production of “Back to the Basics” at Power Station Recording Studios in Pompano Beach. He’d heard about them when he was with his former band and wanted to support a local business. The challenge was getting the musicians he wanted to play on the album together at the same time. As he wanted it to have the organic feel of a “live” album, he booked an entire day. The musicians arrived, played the songs, and he went with the best version of each. He reports that under the able direction of engineer Brennan Fulton, the “energy of the album built.”

“Back to the Basics” was officially released at a July 9 event at Crazy Uncle Mike’s, a brewery/restaurant/music venue in Boca Raton. Rounding out the program were two other impressive acts: Sierra Lane, a soulful singer who lives and works in the area, and Shaw Davis & the Black Ties, a bluesy power group.
