Plus gros événement de l’histoire de la musique, le Live Aid 1985 a marqué les esprits par sa démesure.
Le 13 juillet 1985, à l’initiative de Bob Geldof et Midge Ure, un double concert humanitaire nommé Live Aid 1985 est donné
en même temps au Wembley Stadium de Londres, au Royaume-Uni, et au John F. Kennedy Stadium de Philadelphie aux États-Unis.
70 artistes vont se relayer sur ces deux scènes, de Bob Dylan à Madonna en passant par Sting, The Who, David Bowie, Queen,
Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin, U2, Tina Turner, Sade ou Dire Straits. Leur marathon musical va durer 16 heures !
Le spectacle est diffusé dans près de 150 pays et sera suivi par deux milliards de téléspectateurs.

Phil Collins sur les deux continents
Pour l’événement, le chanteur Phil Collins voit les choses en grand. Il décide de chanter
sur les deux scènes qui se situent pourtant sur deux continents différents !
Pour réussir cet exploit, l’artiste va s’envoler de Londres en Concorde,
direction Philadelphie, juste après sa prestation. (CD4 et CD13).

Paul McCartney et sa panne de micro
Parfois, certains problèmes techniques donnent naissance à de grands moments, comme ce fut le cas pour Paul McCartney.
L’ex-Beatles doit en effet faire face à une longue panne de micro, durant deux minutes, au début de sa prestation.
Sa reprise de « Let It Be »  au piano semble perdue d’avance lorsque David Bowie, Pete Townshend, Alison Moyet
 et Bob Geldof décident de lui venir en aide en le rejoignant sur scène pour l’accompagner. (CD11).

Live Aid 1985 : Queen, les héros du show
S’il y a bien une prestation qu’il faut retenir de ce concert mythique, c’est celle du groupe Queen.
Freddie Mercury enflamme la foule durant 20 minutes grâce aux tubes « Bohemian Rhapsody »,
 « Radio Gaga », « We Will Rock You » ou encore « We Are the Champions ». (CD8).
 Leur performance mènera d’ailleurs le groupe à réaliser une tournée des stades l’année suivante.

Le Live Aid 1985 inspira une chanson à Roger Waters
Peu de temps après le concert du siècle, Roger Waters, du mythique groupe Pink Floyd, écrit « The Tide Is Turning ».
 Le morceau sera le troisième extrait de l’album « Radio K.A.O.S. », sorti en 1987.
