Artist Friendly Tools
While the nodes are what makes Houdini unique and give it power, there are lots of viewport and shelf tools that allow for artist-friendly viewport interactions. Behind the scenes, Houdini builds up the nodes and networks for you. Houdini lets artists explore different creative paths because it is easy to branch off a new node to explore alternative solutions.
FLEXIBLENode-based Workflow
In Houdini, every action is stored in a node. These nodes are then “wired” into networks which define a “recipe” that can be tweaked to refine the outcome then repeated to create similar yet unique results. The ability for nodes to be saved and to pass information, in the form of attributes, down the chain is what gives Houdini its procedural nature.
Houdini 18 introduces SideFX Solaris – a USD-based context for lookdev, layout and lighting that brings procedural tools to this important part of the pipeline. This release also includes SOP-based tools for configuring Destruction and Pyro FX shots, and UX enhancements throughout the software.

WINDOWS INSTALLATION :1. Unzip and unrar to a temp directory
2. Start installation
BEFORE STARTING HOUDINI:
3. Start XFORCE Houdini Keygen as ADMINISTRATOR
Click on Patch License Daemon (wait for confirmation in keygen window)
4.Licensing:
Launch the License Administrator.
In the Server Information tab you will find your Server Name & Server Code
Go back to XFORCE Houdini Keygen
Enter your Server Name & Server Code
and generate your license keys ...
Go back to the License Administrator
Select File/Manually Enter Keys...
Copy paste the keys you generated, 5 by 5 .
Key string #1 should be SERVER your_server_name server_code .....
NB : Install the "other keys to play with" at your own risk, those are mainly
for dev and debug ... so Make sure you installed the License keys first
MAC INSTALLATION :
1. Unzip and unrar to a temp directory
2. Start installation
3.Before Starting Houdini, you must first set up the shell environment.
At a C shell prompt (csh, tcsh, bash)
go to /Applications/Houdini/Houdini[version]/Frameworks/Houdini.framework/Versions/[version]/Resources
type the following:
source houdini_setup
This command initializes the current shell's environment to run
Houdini.
4.Licensing:
Stop license server (from the license server menu or sesictrl -q)
Copy the sesinetd (from Crack dir) matching your version to
/Applications/Houdini/Houdini[version]/Frameworks/Houdini.framework/Versions/[version]/Resources/houdini/sbin
and to /Library/Preferences/sesi/
Make sure you dont change file access permissions (in other words make sure the binary is executable chmod 755 sesinetd in case)
Restart license server
Tip : check md5 of the running sesinetd to make sure you replaced it
another way to really kill / restart the server , just copy paste this command as root or sudo
ps aux | grep sesi | fgrep -v grep | awk ' { print $2 }'| xargs -n 1 kill -9
IMPORTANT:
For Catalina and Mojave users,it is mandatory to shut down gatekeeper using "spctl --master-disable" from terminal
Also it is mandatory to add to security under full disk access those files sesinetd (both sesinetd), sesictrl and the app license administrator 18.0.499
Launch the License Administrator by typing "hkey" or from the launch menu.
In the Server Information you will find your Server Name & Server Code
(those can also be obtained this way : sesictrl -n)
Launch XFORCE Houdini macOS Keygen or Windows Houdini Keygen or the Linux Keygen or you can use windows keygen on Osx using Crossover if you want
Enter your Server Name & Server Code
and generate your license keys ...
Go back to the License Administrator
Select Menu License Administrator/Manually Enter Keys...
Copy paste the keys you generated 5 by 5 .
Key string #1 should be SERVER your_server_name server_code .....
You can also enter your keys this way : sesictrl -I key
NB: You can build your own sesinetd (for dev,beta,. versions) by passing the sesinetd as command line argument to the macOS Keygen
LINUX INSTALLATION :1. Unzip and unrar to a temp directory
2. Unpack houdini-18*.tar.gz (tar -xzvf)
Run "./houdini.install" (without "") and follow instructions ..
3.Before Starting Houdini, you must first set up the shell environment.
At a C shell prompt (csh, tcsh, bash), type the following:
source houdini_setup
(you run this within the installed dir)
This command initializes the current shell's environment to run
Houdini. You may want to add the above line to your .login file.
4.Licensing:
Stop license server (/etc/init.d/sesinetd stop or sesictrl -q)
Copy the sesinetd (from Crack dir) matching your version to /usr/lib/sesi/ (overwrite)
Make sure you dont change file access permissions (in other words make sure the binary is executable chmod 755 sesinetd in case)
Restart license server
Launch the License Administrator by typing "hkey".
In the Server Information you will find your Server Name & Server Code
Launch XFORCE Linux keygen (Houdini-KG-lnx or Houdini-KG-lnx-static) or XFORCE Windows Keygen
Enter your Server Name & Server Code
(those can also be obtained this way : /usr/lib/sesi/sesictrl -n)
and generate your license keys ...
Go back to the License Administrator
Select File/Manually Enter Keys...
