Si Falling In Between et Hydra l'ont fait avec The Seventh One et Fahrenheit dans un club appelé Tambu, alors l'enfant s'appellerait Toto XIV.

En un mot: brillant.

Dans plusieurs cas: Toto XIV est un changement complet de rythme de Falling In Between, mais est beaucoup plus représentatif de l'héritage de Toto.

En fait, si quelqu'un me demandait à quoi ressemblait Toto, auparavant, j'aurais du mal à trouver l'album qui représente le mieux ce groupe. Cela dépend toujours de mon humeur. Plus maintenant.

Toto XIV est un disque virtuel qui couvre toutes les facettes du son classique du groupe, avec une nouvelle production contemporaine plus grande que celle de Ben Hur.

Toto XIV est une bête différente par rapport au dernier album du groupe, Falling In Between, sorti il ??y a 9 ans. Cependant, il y a eu une bonne liste d'événements à documenter dans cet espace. Il y a eu rupture avec le chanteur Bobby Kimball; une réunion en direct pour soutenir Mike Porcaro (malheureusement souffrant de SLA); le retour de Steve Porcaro et David Paich à la tournée; le retour du célèbre chanteur Joseph Williams (de Fahrenheit et The Seventh One Fame); le départ du batteur Simon Phillips - avec le batteur de Steely Dan, Keith Carlock, pour l'enregistrement de cet album (mais maintenant remplacé par Shannon Forrest pour la tournée); un long procès (maintenant réglé) et non des moindres, le retour du bassiste original David Hungate pour la tournée et aussi plusieurs pistes sur cet album.
 

Je n'ai pas été vendu sur XIV tout de suite comme si j'étais Falling In Between. Mais cela revient à mon point précédent sur les complexités qui se sont révélées au fil du temps et aussi le fait que, alors que FiB était un vrai disque de rock, XIV est plus décontracté et inclus le vrai son historique du groupe.

C'est un disque de Westcoast / AOR avec des moments d'angoisse rock, un peu comme les deux albums de Joseph Williams.

Il semble plus simple à la surface, mais la vérité est qu'il a une tonne de couches, des arrangements subtils et sublimes et une intensité sous-jacente.

Produit par CJ Vanston et le groupe, ce disque est l'équivalent sonore de Gone With The Wind.
