Pantera est un groupe de heavy metal américain, originaire d'Arlington, Texas. Il est initialement fondé en 1981 par les frères Abbott, le guitariste Dimebag Darrell et le batteur Vinnie Paul1 et dissout en 2003. Si, au départ, le groupe présente certaines caractéristiques apparentées au glam metal, sa musique relève avant tout du heavy metal. Cependant, dès 1990, le groupe prend un tournant radical vers le groove metal, un nouveau style dérivé du thrash metal.
