Walter Blunt, un journaliste anglais, veut conquérir la télévision américaine. Lors des interviews qu'il mène dans son émission sur le câble, il partage sa sagesse, même quand personne ne le souhaite. Si ses intentions sont bonnes, ses décisions le sont beaucoup moins. Blunt n'a alors comme soutien que le majordome anglais et alcoolique qu'il a emmené avec lui de Grande-Bretagne.
