Main character Maureen Coughlin makes her way to New Orleans in order to find herself again after a gut-wrenching battle with a Staten Island animal of a politician, Frank Sebastian. Maureen brings her emotional baggage with her to NOLA as she joins the New Orleans police force. This woman has more chips on her shoulder than Erik Estrada and Bob Wilcox but her passion for doing what she thinks is right is admirable. I enjoyed some of the new characters (Preacher, Mother Mayor and Detective Atkinson) and hope they make appearances in future books. I have read all of the entries in the Maureen Coughlin series and have always found her to be a compelling character but this time author Bill Loehfelm ratchets things up by bringing us into the famed City of New Orleans. The sights, sounds and smell of the city are painted masterfully by Loehfelm transported me back to my trips to Mardi Gras in my younger days. Any book that puts you on the edge of your seat AND makes you yearn for your younger days is a book worth sitting down with. Believe.
