Bedtime for Frances —
The big hand of the clock is at 12.
The little hand is at 7.
It is seven o’ clock.
It is bedtime for Frances.
It may be bedtime for Frances, but before Frances can sleep, she needs a glass of milk, a kiss from Father, one from Mother, her teddy bear, her doll, another kiss from Father, and another one from Mother. And then there are tigers and giants and ominous cracks in the ceiling to keep her up. Will Frances ever go to sleep?
A baby sister for Frances –
With the arrival of baby Gloria in the house Frances feels that living with her parents is not as much fun as it used to be, so after dinner she packs her bag and runs away to under the dining room table. But when she overhears her parents talking about how much they all miss her, she decides that she should go back home. After all a being a big sister means she has lots of grown up things to do!
Bread and jam for Frances – In this memorable story, Frances decides that bread and jam are all she wants to eat, and her understanding parents grant her wish’at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacktime. Can there ever be too much bread and jam?
Children will cheer for Frances as she cleverly avoids her bedtime, stubbornly refuses to eat anything but bread and jam, and struggles not to eat the tempting, chocolatey birthday present she has just bought for her younger sister, Gloria. These reassuring and funny stories are just right for those amazing days of childhood!
A birthday for Frances.
It is Gloria’s birthday but Frances is not sure whether or not to give Gloria a present, as she is the kind of little sister who can’t catch, can’t throw and who when playing hide-and-seek, always hides in places where part of her is sticking out.
Will Frances give Gloria her present..?
The second collection originally on LP than tape includes the extra story…
A Bargain for Frances
Frances and Thelma are friends — most of the time. Thelma always seems to get Frances into trouble. When she tricks Frances into buying her tea set, it’s the last straw. Can Frances show her that it’s better to lose a bargain than lose a friend?
The second collection was originally on LP than tape, issued by Scolastic (1960’s –1980’s) to accompany the written books. The stories were indexed with a sound to indicate when to turn the page. I was able to edit out the high pitched tone from several stories. Two of the stories have a chime over some words and was been left in. The readers are: Alice Playten; Arnold Lobel; Gloria Virgile; Archie Bleyer; Garth Williams
The CD rip was mine. The other books came from various sources.
