The Secret Team, L. Fletcher Prouty’s expose of the CIA’s brutal methods of maintaining national security, was first published in the 1970s. However, virtually all copies of the book disappeared upon distribution, having been purchased en masse by shady private buyers.

Certainly, Prouty’s allegations such as how the U-2 Crisis of 1960 was fixed to sabotage Eisenhower-Khrushchev talks cannot have pleased the CIA. Colonel Prouty was the basis for the character 'Colonel X' in the famous film 'JFK' and consulted with Director Oliver Stone at length in its creation. He passed away in 2001.

In The Secret Team Interviews, recorded in 1989, Prouty more or less recites the entire book's contents from memory, with additional details not included in the book, so any who have doubts as to the truth of Colonel X's claims, rest them.
