A 3 anni dal pop di The Antidote i Morcheeba, realizzano Dive Deep, a rientrare parzialmente entro i canoni del trip hop. Ormai perso per sempre il carisma della frontwoman Skye, che si è data a una carriera da solista, la band inglese rimane composta dai fratelli Paul e Ross Godfrey, rispettivamente dj e strumentista.



Privi così di un cantante fisso si aprono a nuove esperienze affidandosi a svariate voci per intonare le 11 tracce del nuovo album, collaborazioni nate in club londinesi o in rete, tra le pagine di MySpace.



Nonostante tutte queste innovazioni i fratelli Godfrey sembrano essersi definitivamente allontanati dai tempi d’oro degli anni 90.



Il disco si apre con Enjoy The Ride, primo singolo estratto, dalle melodie dolci e coinvolgenti, cantato da Judy Tzuke che con la sua voce soffice rende l’atmosfera ancora più appassionante; segue Riverbed che culla la mente dell’ ascoltatore sulle note, le quali sembrano il soffio di un freddo vento norvegese, terra di origine del giovane Thomas Dybdahl e dopo i ritmi della traccia strumentale Thumbnails si ode la ballata Run Honey Run cantata da Bradley Burgess.



Un’ altra voce che si presta per dare voce ai nuovi componimenti del duo britannico è quella della parigina Manda, che interpreta Gained The World e Au-delà, quest’ ultima nella sua lingua madre: il francese.



Va menzionata anche One Love Karma, presentata da Paul come il primo fluteboxing registrato al mondo, rappata dall’ americano di origini coreane Cool Calm Pete su basi pseudo-orientali.



Complessivamente il nuovo album dei Morcheeba non lascerà certo il segno, ma merita un ascolto: seppur nella consapevolezza che esso non è nemmeno paragonabile alle loro opere di 10 anni fa.
