Hank Brian Marvin (Brian Robson Rankin, 10/28/1941) is an English multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist for the mostly instrumental band The Shadows, and was formed as a backing band for singer Cliff Richard. Marvin is famous for having a distinctive guitar sound, crystal clear sound with very high reverb, giving a romantic dreamy melody effect. His work has influenced many British (and not only) guitarists, including George Harrison, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Brian May, Mark Knopfler, Peter Frampton, Steve Howe, Roy Wood, Tony Iommi, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page , Tommy Emmanuel, Randy Bachman, Neil Young and many more...
Originally known as the lead guitarist for The Shadows, which grew into the UK's biggest selling instrumental band, Hank Marvin defined the sound of a generation. As a solo artist, in a long and successful career spanning over 60 years, Hank Marvin has released 16 albums. As a solo artist and partly as a member of The Shadows, he spent approximately 900 weeks on the UK Albums Chart.
