Four titles from John Coltrane's spring 1967 recording sessions were released in September on the album “Expression” - another mesmerizing dialogue between Coltrane and Sanders assisted by Alice, Ali and Garrison. It was the last studio album to be approved for release by Coltrane before his death in July 1967. The track "Ogunde" is an adaptation of an Afro-Brazilian spiritual entitled "Ogunde Varere".
A varied and searching record, performed in the most spiritually reaching territory Coltrane would aspire to. His single-minded quest for understanding and transcendence took him to places of new exploration and light. Beautiful spiritual music.
